Some Style Inspiration...

The inspiration for creative, individual style doesn't necessarily come from the pages of magazines or off the runway...Here is part two of the photos from the day Meggasus and I spent searching for antiques! We found so many one-of-a-kind items... just what we needed to get our creative juices flowing!

It's Officially Summer

Now that it's July, summer is in full swing. To get everyone excited for the month ahead, I've decided to post one of my favorite beach editorials from Vogue Paris, 2009.

Take a look at this amazing set of photographs from the lens of Bruce Weber....

I love this editorial because it proves that Sasha Pivovarova, who is (in my opinion) the queen of being fierce, also has the best smile in the business.

A Weakness for Antiques...

I have a few weaknesses.... which include tall guys, dark chocolate and antiques. Yes, you heard me, Antiques! I'm quite the old lady in that sense....I love anything vintage and anything that contains history. That is why I loved the day Meggasus and I recently spent together, when we ventured over to Colinsville, which is home to the best antique store we've ever been in called "Antiques on the Farmington"... We took a few pictures along the way that we thought you would enjoy!

We took a photo of the inside just so you could get a sense of just how massive this antique store is... and this was only one of two floors!



Meggasus and I couldn't get over the amazing selection of antique jewelry! Each piece was unique . Take a look at one of the displays....



We just adored these rings!

I'm a sucker for a black fur coat! This one was stunning...



This was another one of our favorite displays... this outfit is so sweet and summery! I love the details in the cardigan.

Our First Contest Ever- WINNERS!

After about two hours of looking through the blogs of our 50+ contestants that participated in our most recent contest, Meggasus and I have FINALLY agreed on three winners. It was a long process.... we laughed, we cried, we argued! (Emphasis on the last one) For those who participated, we would like to thank you all for your patience! Every blog we saw was unique in its own way... however, the ones we chose speak to us, and very much reflect our taste in fashion, photography, art, etc. Now to announce the winners (They are listed in no specific order)... drum roll please!!....

• Artpixie

Artpixie is the blog of a 16 year old girl from Austrailia who has an incredible eye for photography. The beauty of this blog is that she features the work of up and coming photographers and artists, giving these visionaries the attention they deserve. Her blog is not only well organized, it is also visually impressive. The Artpixie blog gives off a sweet and feminine vibe that is very welcoming to its viewers. Her blog is separated into several sections (Photography, Art, Fashion, Editorials, Interviews, Free Downloads, Blogroll and her own work) making it easy for readers to find what they are looking for. According to Meggasus, "When I read this blog it makes me feel really happy, like when I'm eating a delicious funfetti cupcake with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles." For a sixteen year old, this girl is very professional and will definitely do big things in the future.

• Une Toute Petite Pomme

French for "The little apple," this blog has been one of our favorites from the start. Each post is simple and consists of one or two photographs and a short, inspiring phrase, thought, or explaination. Pomeline will post photos of anything from a soft, vintage, Fernando Pessoa painting to a photograph of what she had for breakfast to pictures of Gemma Ward, Jessica Stam and other high fashion models. If you are in search of inspiration. this is the place to look. Where Pomeline stumbles upon these unique images is a mystery to us, but she never fails to find something visually pleasing. According to Meggasus, "This blog makes me wish I could speak in sexy french phrases and write exquisite poetry."

• Fashion Clocked

We love Katie from Fashion Clocked because just by looking at her blog, we felt asthough she could be one of our good friends if only we lived closer. Out of the three winners, this blog is the most fashion oriented, while the other two are more focused on photography. After reading Fashion Clocked's outfit posts, we both wish we could borrow her wardrobe because we love every single item that she features. This makes sense, because the blogger behind Fashion Clocked is a fashion merchandiser and buyer from the United Kingdom with obvious good taste. Not only does Katie have excellent style, she is also a blonde, model-esque beauty with fabulous bone structure. According to Meggasus, "I don't want to sound weird, but I wish I was the girl from Fashion Clocked.... She probably has a cool British accent to go along with her cool clothes!"

Who's that Girl?

Yesterday, Models.com posted the newest Prada campaign for the Fall/Winter 2010 season, photographed by Steven Meisel. Like I've said before on this blog, being cast in the Prada campaign is probably one of the best jobs a model can book. So naturally, I'm always very curious to see who landed the big gig. Take a look!

This season the campaign stars supermodel Angela Lindvall and Mathias Bergh. Other models in the campaign include Valerija Kelava and Kim Dall Armi, Daria Strokous and Clement Chabernaud, Mark Cox and Sigrid Agren.

When you take a closer look at the ad, you can see that there is also an unidentified model in the background who happens to be african american. This is the first time there has ever been racial diversity in a Prada campaign.

Part of me wants to celebrate this newfound diversity in the Prada ads, but the other part of me can't help but wonder exactly how progressive this ad is, considering the only black girl is alone in the background, covered by shadows and completely unidentifiable. Isn't it actually a little racist?

Any ideas on who is model is? My guess is Shena Moulton or Joan Smalls.

Some Eccentric Body Jewelry ....

This is one of my first ever jewelry posts... and I'm not talking about your classic diamond earrings and pearl necklaces...The trend is now quite the opposite, and that is eccentric body jewelry. The more exotic the better! It is safe to say that if you wore these pieces out, you would definitely steal the show!

In my opinion, this item is positively stunning and unique... It would be the perfect way to dress up those summertime, strapless dresses!


This next Egyptian inspired accessory is Bliss Lau's "Head Peace In Old Nickle."

Let's just say it's far from your typical princess tiara or those hippie headbands... Very exotic!

I am curious how this piece stays on... Is there are clip somewhere to keep it from sliding around??

Some may think this third item is over the top... but I think it is just brilliant! What an easy conversation starter this would be. It's Aminaka Wilmont's necklace in gun metal!

I would love to rock this over a plain white, fitted t-shirt!

I have never seen anything like this last accessory before... It's Erickson Beamon's "Duchess of Fabulous Earring in Crystal." At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this piece... maybe a little too elfish? But then I thought about the graceful Arwen and my doubts about this piece quickly vanished! (Who wouldn't want to be like the LOTR elven goddess?!) It definitely takes earrings to a whole new level!
