Hey guys!!! We apologize for the long delay in blogging! We've been extremely busy the past few months but recently decided to start our blog up again. We've missed you guys! Also, sorry for the change in layout (Katie-Lu tried to experiment and we can't get it back to just a black background)! We aren't very tech savvy and web design isn't our forte.

Anyway, back to blogging.

My opinion on celebs hogging up valuable editorial space in magazines usually goes like this: (I guess you can already tell my opinions from my word choice but I'll say it anyway!) Let models model and let celebs act! Crossover from model to actress or actress to model is never deeply appreciated in my book. (I want models back on mainstream magazine covers)!

However, when a celeb AND a model are featured in a story I think it's pure editorial gold.

So when I was on models.com this morning and saw an editorial by Norman Jean Roy for Vanity Fair featuring Justin Timberlake and Lara Stone I was blown away.....talk about perfect casting! Here are some of the photos from the story:

The 12 Days of Christmas

In light of the holiday season, I've been searching for a festive editorial to share with the blogosphere. Recently I came up with this one called "The Twelve Days of Christmas," photographed by Steven Meisel in 1998 for US Vogue.

We've all heard several renditions of the classic holiday song, but have you ever seen a visual artistic interpretation of it?

Well, back in 1998, US Vogue did an entire fashion spread based on the song, featuring supermodel Shalom Harlow. (She's actually still working today...omg)!

Anway, here's the editorial:

Granted, I was seven when this editorial was published, so maybe it's just too outdated for me to really understand, but personally I found parts of this editorial to be a little odd.

For instance, the "Three French Hens" photo has three french maids. Come on now, just because they are french hens, doesn't mean "interpreting" them to be french maids will cut it. Changing three french hens to three french maids is the same thing as changing it to three french fries, basically.

Also, when I think of eight maids a-milking, I don't not think of babies...(I'm guessing they're referencing breast feeding? Honestly, I feel awkward just saying that.) Generally, I think of maids milking cows....

Well, what are your thoughts with this editorial? My favorite photo is for "nine ladies dancing." Look at them raise the roof! Par-tay!

LF Store in Harvard Square

The LF Store in Cambridge is quickly becoming my new favorite shopping destination. According to the official homepage of the store, LF is "geared towards girls who dare to be different." When I first entered the shop, I was almost overwhelmed by different fabrics and designs. There was so much I wanted to get my hands on! My friend Emily and I were simply just browsing around for a good hour basically in awe before we even started to try anything on. FYI, I'm a sucker for a good slouchy sweater and earth tones and this place was filled.

Below I have chosen a few images from various LF store lookbooks... Which style do you like best?

"The Drifter"
What I love most about this look is actually the feather headpiece on the girl in the image to the right. I tried this on in the store. At first I was a little skeptical about it, because it reminded me of an elf...but once it was on I loved how it looked against my dark hair. It's such a unique piece that it definitely makes a statement. All you'd have to do is wear it with confidence and anyone could pull it off.

"Earth Spirit"
The image to the right is possibly my favorite outfit out of all the various looks on the website. Seeing girls wear floor length dresses is a rare occurrence these days, and this model makes the style still look sexy even though she's showing minimal skin! Not to mention her legs look a mile long.

"Official Lookbook"
So I was never a fan of ponchos but this dark green one brings them to a new level of cool. I adore the long fringe at the end, and it looks great paired with the tribal indian pouch necklace!

"The After Party"
Images from this specific lookbook are very different from the daytime looks! The majority of the styles are heavy on the black lace and gorgeous faux fur. You would definitely be the show stopper at a party wearing any of these styles...

The only downside to my recent discovery of this store is that it is a five minute walk away from where I got hired to work in January... All I have to say is that I'm worried about how fast my first paycheck will disappear :$

Marc Jacobs s/s 2011 campaign is out!

Marc Jacobs is finally using real models in his campaigns again (no celebs thank god)! As a result the campaigns are getting so much better (smart decision, Marc).

For the spring show, the clothes were very vibrant and colorful. They had a 1970'a disco feel to them. The spring campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller, perfectly captures the theme of the collection.

It's kind of cool to see how closely the campaign captures the essence of the show. If you want to see what I mean here's a quick video of the show from nylon.com.

Usually, the Marc Jacobs campaigns are pretty bland with dull lighting and emotionless faces. (Although I must say that last season wasn't bland because the model choice was spot on).

Either way, I claim this season's campaign to be downright groovy! (haha) Take a look at the newest images featuring models Caroline Brasch Nielsen and Masha Kirsanova.

Models.com says that this campaign is "reminiscent of Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver." Do you agree?

Kelsi Dagger Shoes! Worth the Splurge...

Believe it or not, shoes are always the most frustrating item for me to buy on my shopping list. The reason for this is because I seem to have the worst luck with every pair I buy. I am that girl who will be running late to class in the rain, and when she is almost there her heel will break! (yes that has happened to me before)

Part of the reason for my bad "luck" however is that I am bargain shopper. I have a difficult time buying any pair of shoes that aren't from Target or Marshalls. Up until recently I had never bought a pair of shoes for myself over $50. However, after all my broken heels, jammed zippers, and painful blisters I have come to the realization that it is worth the investment to buy a quality pair of shoes even if it means dropping a little more money than you expected. Recently, I came across my new favorite brand- Kelsi Dagger.

I was looking for a pair of practical, yet stylish boots that could handle with winter weather in Boston... This is the pair I found!

Kinda grunge, but still more feminine than most combat style boots I've seen! They aren't too clunky/massive, but they are still sturdy enough to stand up against winter weather! Not to mention, they do not have and zippers to get jammed or spike heels to get stuck in the Boston sidewalk grates! Maybe now I can make it to class on time...

Here are a few others I was tempted to buy... As you can see, the heels on these made them a little more unpractical for everyday use.

I am predicting that my next splurge on shoes will be an "over the knee" style boot like this one with the buckles running all the way up the leg... very sexy!

I was surprised how much I liked this brown leather pair... Brown is a color I never am initially attracted to when it comes to fashion. Black is always my first instinct! However, this one took me by surprise! I love how it's casual, but still has a 4 inch glam heel!

This one was actually my favorite... but not what I was looking for! The open toe would be silly in the winter.

I may have to order this last pair after I get my next paycheck... I've been wanting a new pair of heels to go out in, and these skyscrapers would definitely be a show stopper! I love the snake skin pattern.... and I'm a sucker for black as I hinted at previously!

Another great aspect of the Kelsi Dagger brand, is that all the shoes run big. This is great for girls like Meggasus and I who have feet on the larger size and are sometimes limited with our options. (another reason as to why shoe shopping is frustrating.) However, the boots I bought fit perfectly and I couldn't be happier with them :)

"Family Circus" by Paolo Roversi for W Magazine

The most recent issue of W magazine came out with this stunning editorial photographed by Paolo Roversi, featuring models Arizona Muse, Lindsey Wixson and Britt Maren. W magazine always produces the most intriguing and beautiful editorials, and this one is definitely no exception.

I just love the combination of snow, farm animals, and beautiful designer gowns.....how could you go wrong? The pale colors of the clothing and whiteness of the snow contrast with the darkness of the background beautifully.

The photographs evoke a feeling of innocence and grace, as well as mystery and emptiness.

I think it was a great artistic choice to color the hair of some of the models reddish pink.... it brings just enough color to the otherwise dull color scheme of off-whites, grays and black.

The hair and make-up, as well as the general vibe of the entire editorial definitely reminds me of John Galliano's most recent collection. In fact, here is a picture of Lindsey Wixson backstage at John Galliano, wearing (pretty much) the same exact hat!

Oh, and I also think it's adorable how the editorial incorporated animals and children! In fact, there were 2 solo pages of just children...this definitely has to do with the newest craze, which is high fashion labels designing kiddie clothes for a sophisticated, fashionable child consumer. Take a look at this little guy wearing a Chanel tweed jacket.

I don't know if designer clothes for children is adorable or ridiculous. Actually, I'm leaning towards ridiculous. What if your kid decides to play with his play-dough in his Chanel jacket? That's just a disaster waiting to happen, and the child wouldn't know the difference between that and his Gymboree overalls.

Life Goes By Pretty Fast.....

Today I want to share with you one of my favorite editorials of all time, featuring supermodel Eniko Mihalik for Vogue Paris that was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in 2008.

This editorial takes readers through a lifetime of ages as Eniko (who was age 22 in 2008) is transformed from age 10 to age 60 in a single editorial. With the changes in Eniko's expression and poses, along with the different make up, hair, and styling for each photo, the magazine was able to pull off this concept beautifully.

The spread starts off with Eniko, at age 10.

Her youthful facial features (such as her adorable dimples), as well as her giggly expression and half hidden smile all give the illusion that in fact Eniko is 10 years old, at the dawn of life. AMAZING!

This next photo is the model at age 20....

Here, you can tell the model is just discovering herself...experimenting with makeup and various accessories.... even straightening her hair. Her expression is hopeful and excited for her life ahead of her.

It's funny to look at this photo because Katie-Lu and I will be turning 20 in January... this editorial makes me realize how young we still are.

Next up, age 30...

Corrupted by her 20's, Eniko at age 30 seems to have been through a decade of experimentation with drugs....her expression is a little "too cool for school" in the sense she's been there, done that.

Age 40....

With the styling in this photo you can see that now the model is middle aged and that she's somewhat of a cougar!

Age 50...

Here, Eniko's taste has been refined with age...she's aging with class, which is the best way to do it, if you ask me.

And finally, Age 60...

I love this last photograph because it gives those of us who are young something to look forward to. Here, age 60 is portrayed as a time of inner peace and self-actualization. Although she still has a few decades to look forward to herself, Eniko seems to have great confidence in who she is and the life she's experienced. Here, she radiates inner beauty opposed to the outer beauty she had in her youth.

$10,000 by Thanksgiving to Raise Money for Breast Cancer

Miss Emily Tebbetts has been our blog photographer for almost a year now and today this post is about her and her amazing goal. Emily's mom has been fighting breast cancer for almost ten years now. As a way to help her Mom and to others suffering with cancer, Emily made it her goal to raise $5,000 by Thanksgiving with the promise of shaving her head if she reached this goal. Emily surpassed her original goal of $5,000 rather quickly, (she will be shaving her head) and now her mission is to raise $10,000!

Here are a few photos Emily has taken over the course of the past year for our blog... She is an extremely talented individual.

This is just a sample of the fabulous photos Emily has taken. She is truly an amazing girl and we are proud to call her a good friend of ours. She is the kind of person that will change the world.

Katherine Hepburn Mystery Dress!

This is not a typical Meggasus and Katie-Lu blog post...

I want you all to take a look at this photo... It's of Katherine Hepburn from "Woman of the Year." The dress she is wearing is the absolute prettiest gown I've ever seen and ever since I first saw this movie about 4 years ago I've never forgotten it. Unfortunately I can't find any other pictures of it to show you of it from the movie...

The reason I'm posting this on the blog is because I was hoping that any other fashionistas in the blogosphere might be able to give an educated guess on who the designer is?? The movie was filmed in 1942... If you watch the movie you will have a better understanding as to why this dress is simply unforgettable.

Twins Reunite in Boston- Photoshoot!

This is a historic moment for Meggasus and Katie-Lu blog... For the first time EVER Meggasus and I were able to both take part in a collaborative photoshoot with the fabulous photographer, Miss Emily Tebbetts! Meggasus was finally able to make the trip up from Storrs CT to visit me in Boston... It was wonderful to be reunited!

Our shoot with Emily began at the reflecting pool and we eventually drifted to Newbury street to take some urban-chic photos.

This first Instax photo is my personal favorite taken from the day... however, Meggasus prefers the 2nd black and white photo... Which do you prefer?

FYI: Meggasus is on the left and I am on the right.

I personally love the natural feel of the Instax photo. There is just something exciting about the idea of only having one chance to take a perfect picture. If something goes wrong, you cannot go back and edit!

Meggasus's teal bracelet is from the Jazz festival on Columbus Ave we attended earlier that weekend. It adds a nice touch of color to our all-black theme of the shoot. My black and gold earrings are from Forever21.

This photo was taken in front of the gorgeous "Christian Church of Science" on Mass Ave. I love how the cool angles of this photo work so well with the beautiful architecture of the church... It provided the perfect backdrop for our photoshoot!

This next one was taken on Newbury street.... Meggasus's expression looks as though she belongs on the front of a 90's album cover!

This last photo is extremely interesting visually. The combination of the hair blowing in the wind with the shadow of the hand makes for a very unique photo.... it definitely highlights Emily's talent as a photographer.

Now since you've seen photos of us together for the first time, the question is, can you tell us apart?!

"Rescue" on Newbury Street

Many of our followers may recall that Meggasus and I have a passion for going to secondhand stores and creating trendy outfits out of miscellaneous treasures that we find. We can spend hours searching through the racks at the Salvation Army in order to find unique pieces we can add to our wardrobe. Being in the city, Boston has many ideal locations to find thrifted deals such as Second Time Around, The Garment District, Poor Little Rich Girl and The Closet. However, a few weeks ago I came across "Rescue" located at 244 Newbury Street, which has easily become my newest favorite consignment shop.

How is works is that they selectively buy women and men's clothing on a walk in basis. All the items they resell must be up to date with the current trends. While reading their website I was somewhat surprised at how picky the criteria is for what they select...For example, they do not accept any vintage clothing from after 1980, lounge wear, business attire, formal dresses or furcoats! Also, all items must be up to date with the current trends... even "classic" styles will not be accepted. They do not have an area for backstock so every item must be in season. However, this just goes to prove that "Rescue" prefers quality over quantity and knows its target market. Take a look at the this photo of Meggasus and I decked out in our recently purchased "Rescue" attire.

Although Rescue does carry a lot of expensive designer brands, the majority of the store is very reasonably priced. I was able to purchase that black blazer for 30$ and the gold studded tube top dress I'm wearing underneath for only $10... The lace top Meggasus is wearing was only $20! We got away like bandits...This photo is a preview to one of our most recent photoshoots that will be featured on the blog shortly, so stay tuned!

Some of the designer items I saw in the store while I was browsing included Levi's Marc by Marc Jacobs, American Apparel, Dolce Vita, Betsey Johnson, Zara, and BGBC. They had an amazing selection!

Just Like a Movie....

It's funny how looking at a fashion photograph can make you feel like you're watching a movie. This editorial from W magazine, photographed by Alex Prager made me feel like exactly this way.

I had never really studied Alex's work before until I came across his photography website and noticed that he has a very distinct, 1960's retro style. The subjects of his photographs always seem to be a little dissatisfied, disturbed or trapped (in a purposeful way, of course).

In fact, his style reminds me so much of an old classic movie....maybe this next photo by Alex will trigger a cinematic memory for you...

That's right, his style can basically be summed up by the movie, THE BIRDS (1963) directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Here are some screen shots from the old horror film....can't you see the similarities?

I love it when a photographer can be identified just by looking at the style of the photo. Tim Walker, Helmut Newton, Terry Richardson, Peter Lindbergh and Steven Meisel all have distinct artistict styles that come across in all of their work.

Being a fashion model is a job in which you must always look the part, even when you aren't at a photo shoot. Whether you are at a casting, backstage, or just walking down the street, there will always be people taking your picture.

Since a fashion model gets the chance to wear thousands of designer clothes for a living, it is only natural for fashion lovers to wonder what they choose to wear when they are not working. This is why a model's street style is so exciting! Take a look at these models and what they choose to wear when they are (as Alex Wang says,) "off duty."

This One is For the Manly Men!

When people think about eating disorders, most automatically think about females... but what about the men? Out of the population who has anorexia and bulimia, 15% are male! (Mirasol Health) For the past decade, it has been the trend for male models to be super thin with little to no muscle tone in their body. Quite frankly, many of these "Men" have the bodies of prepubescent boys... After looking up the measurements for the average male model, I was shocked to find the average dimensions for a male model are a height of 5 ft 11 in to 6 ft 3 in, a waist of 26–33 in and a chest measurement of 32–40 in.

Here are some example images of the skinny male body type that have dominated the fashion industry for the past decade.... (Photos from DNA Model Management)

Maybe this look is "edgy" or "editorial"....but it definitely does not look like these men are healthy. I could probably beat all of them in arm wrestling...Just sayin'!

However, times are changing! After the Spring/Summer 2011 shows it is clear that designers are starting to choose more muscular, "manly men" to walk the runway.

Aww male models are growing up!

Here is an awesome collage I found on the NY times website showing some of the on the full-grown, muscular men on the runways and covers of this season!

Also, take a look at this cover of VMAN magazine featuring Josh Brolin on the cover. Personally, I would much rather see his face on the cover of a magazine than the other boyish men that have been on covers in the past. This cover projects an image of security and confidence!

Hopefully the average male model measurements will be going up in the future so that men do not get a false sense of how they should look! However, as male models get more muscular, let's hope this doesn't have the reverse effect on men causing them to worry too much about being jacked.... For the wellness of men everywhere, let's hope there can be a happy medium!

The Row: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Video

Meggasus and I have adored Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen ever since their debut on "Full House". (Undoubtedly because of the shared twin bond between us but that's besides the point) Now since they have made their move from child stars to high fashion designers with their increasingly popular line "The Row," Meggasus and I have even more of a reason to remain devoted fans of the pair...

Here is a candid shot of the two bartending at Fashion's Night Out last year... This photo is just so fun I had to share it!

What I love about the Olsen's collection is that they stay true to their own personal style. Pieces are understated and classy... focused on precise fit and the use of luxurious fabric, or as MK and A put it, "Refined, minimal luxury that is wearable." What I noticed about this particular collection that is different from what I expected is the use of light colors such as white, ivory, tan and pale pink. When I picture the Olsen's style I automatically think black and grays! Don't get me wrong, black is one of my favorite colors to wear on a daily basis (a habit I am trying to pull away from)...just it is nice that the Olsen's are incorporating these lighter colors, proving that "classy" doesn't necessarily always mean black.

The only aspect of the The Row that I believe the Olsen's should strongly consider changing, is its absurd prices. I understand that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are powerhouses and can basically do whatever they want, but charging $250.00 for a simple, plain gray T-shirt is beyond ridiculous! Just take a look at a few of these sky-high prices.

This red trench is lovely, however I believe I bought almost the same exact one from H&M last year for about $20.00... That fabric better be as luxurious as they say it is!

Part Two of The Fenway Garden Photoshoot!

Now for part two of my photoshoot in the Fenway Gardens with the fabulous Miss Emily Tebbetts!

I loved sitting in this tall grass! I felt like a tiger. ..

My expression in this moment was definitely influenced by the random violinist that was playing the garden next to us...he was quite an interesting fellow. I play the cello, and at first I couldnt help but laugh to myself a little because it sounded like he was playing "Mississippi Stoplight" in double time...which anyone who did elementary school strings knows what I am talking about! However, that must have been his warmup because I was shocked when he began to play "Explosive" by Bond.... my favorite modern day string quartet! I definitely recommend checking them out if you get a chance ;)

I wear the bracelete in this photo almost everyday...never fails to get at least 2 compliments!

To me this last photo is genius. Everything about it works...the bike in the foreground is an excellent touch! Emily's photography never fails to amaze me...

"Hit or Miss" at Jil Sander

This season the Jil Sander collection left me with mixed feelings. Half of the collection was beautifully designed with flattering silhouettes and bold colors. The other half of the collection was composed of floor length dresses with zero structure whatsoever. These dresses seemed as wide as they were long (the horizontal stripes didn't help), and even looked unflattering on the runway models!!

As I looked through the runway images my opinions for each look became very polarized. Basically, they were either a "hit" or a "miss". Here is a little of what was going through my head:

Hit! I love the splash of color on the white dress....gorgeous.....

Miss! This pastel color has potential, but the shape of the dress is just...a blob.

Hit! This collection is clear evidence that vertical stripes work wonders and elongate the body whereas chunky horizontals can be a bit unflattering. Here's what I mean....

Miss!!! This dress DROWNS the model. People with thinner frames are usually the exception when it comes to wearing horizontal stripes, but not in this case. The only redeeming quality is the lip color.

But no worries, for every action there's an equal but opposite reaction....

HIT! I love the nontraditional shape of this dress. Some may think the design is unflattering but I think it's intriguing and Shena can really pull it off. The tangerine color works amazingly with her skin color!!

Miss! Too much fabric, no structure. Where's the body underneath?

Ok, I'll end it on a positive note:

This was my favorite outfit of the show. I love the combination of vertical/horizontal stripes, as well as the light pink color paired with black. The top is dark and sexy (Sheer tends to bring sexiness to any outfit), and the bottom is feminine and conservative. The outfit is one big juxtaposition and I love it.

Emily and I Reunite for a Shoot in the Fenway Gardens!

Being back in Boston this fall has been excellent...one of the things I missed most over the summer were my blog photoshoots with our blog photographer, the lovely and talented Miss Emily Tebbetts! It was a happy reunion :) Of course we got to shooting right away in on of our old favorite spots... The Fenway Victory Gardens! Each individual garden is like its own little world, each one very unique and eclectic... full of inspiration, perfect for our first photoshoot of the year!

My lace top and black shorts are from Forever21 and the army green tank underneath is a thrift store find!

I like the touch of patriotism in this photo with the mini American flag... Perfect for the historic setting of the shoot!

The earrings I am wearing are from a street fair Meggasus and I went to in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho this summer.

This rose covered archway belonged to a older Russian lady with a lovely, Russian accent. She was kind enough to invite us into her garden to take a look around! She even let us take a few pictures and gave us advice on different angles and poses to use in her garden... Supposedly she used to be an actress in Russia back in the 1950s! Her story is one I would have liked to have heard more about....

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2011 Collection: Stunning as Always

Ever since I was 17 Katie-Lu and I have had this Alberta Ferretti ad photographed by Steven Meisel on our bedroom wall back in F-town.

Coincidentally, I once found myself sitting next to Siri Tollerod on the subway when I was heading to a Lacoste casting back in my modeling days. I instantly thought of this ad. (Siri is the 2nd girl on the left).

Anway, I always love the Alberta Ferretti campaigns. Every season Alberta continues to impress me. Last season was no exception. Here is one image from the last campaign season.

While checking style.com for the most recent runway images for this spring, the Alberta Ferretti collection really caught my eye and did not fail to meet my expectations: feminine and gorgeous.

My favorite part of this collection was how the dresses alternated with horizontal blocks of sheer chiffon and silky/metallic fabrics. This gave the clothing a very delicate look, but with a modern twist. The colors of the fabric, as well as the floral patterns are very beautiful and compliment the soft, flowing silhouettes. All in all, the collection was absolutely stunning.

Kitten Heels- A Blessing for Tall Amazons!

As a girl who is 5'10'' it took me a long time to finally feel comfortable wearing high heals. Back in the awkward middle school days I avoided them at all costs. I never wanted to wear them because I was already about a good 6 inches taller than most of the guys in my grade... It also didn't help that I had acne and thick bangs and didn't want to be noticed! Anyways, my point is that I wish kitten heels were as popular back then as they are now... For those who don't know, kitten heels are trendy shoes with heels that are only about 1.5 to 2 inches tall... These mini heels were popping up all over the runways this season! (see Prada, Giambattista, Marni etc.) Perfect for those tall amazons who have not yet learned how to embrace their height, but still want to feel and look sexy!

The color of these are stunning. Steve Madden.... always a win!

These by Givenchy are my favorite!

These Lanvin's look like simple ballet flats.... but with more style because of the added mini heel ;)

They may be baby heels...but dont let that fool you! I have a pair myself and they tend to slip and slide a bit. Check out this picture of Mathilde Franchon in the Marc by Marc Jacobs show! ahh!

Tommy Hilfiger Celebrates 25 Years

I love the Tommy Hilfiger collection this season. Maybe I'm just a sucker for his classic, all-American, prepster style but honestly, you can't blame me. I have lived in Connecticut my entire life.

This "twisted country club' themed show marks Hilfiger's 25th year in the business. What I love about the Tommy Hilfiger brand is that it was probably the first designer whose clothes I could easily point out without checking the tag as a kid. This is because the Hilfiger label is distinct and loyal to its image. Some may think that Hilfiger's designs have been repetitive season after season, but to me the constant clean cut style is reliable and comforting. It is a company I can trust.

However, Style.com mentions how the newest addition to the label, designer Peter Som, has mixed things up a bit by merging some of his quirky style into the collection. I welcome this change because the label has maintained its Tommy vibe. In my opinion, Peter Som is a perfect match for the brand. Som seems to embrace the prep look with his own label as well. This season the Tommy brand just has a more electric color scheme and seems to cater to a younger consumer. Otherwise, the 25th anniversary show still proved to be classic Tommy, through and through.

Scuba Diver Chic at Ohne Titel

Maybe it's the swimmer in me, but did anyone else think "scuba diving" when they saw the Spring 2011 Ohne Titel collection?

Opening with Cat McNeil in the neoprene bodysuit just made me think of dolphin trainers at Sea World. I love the creativity behind the body suits, but I just cant help associating them with water sports.

Overall, the collection has a very sporty vibe. The color blocking and tight buns adds to this effect. I give Alexa Adams and Flora Gill (the designers behind Ohne Titel) props for thinking outside of the box and making a memorable collection but will it be remembered for the right reasons?

We're Rooting for the Rookies

New York Fashion Week starts in just a few days (September 9th) and personally, I find several aspects of fashion week to be somewhat of crap shoot. Take the trends from last season, for instance. Who would have thought that velvet would have been all over the runways last February or that the VS angels would walk for Prada and Louis Vuitton? Nevertheless, this is all what makes fashion so exciting.

One of my favorite things to monitor throughout every show season is which of the hundreds of long legged hopefuls emerge as the memorable new face who books all of the big shows. I've been stalking Models.com for the past few days to see the NY show packages so I could scope out which runway rookies will take the industry by storm this season. Here are six of my favorite show cards featuring new (or relatively new) models from Marilyn, Supreme and Next.

Marilyn

Elizabeth is very memorable...check out that killer bone structure and those amazing eyebrows!

Isabella has such soft, angelic features...love her!

Supreme

Ok, I'm a little biased because Johanne is one of my best friends, but just look at her! She's got the most beautiful, whispy blonde hair and unforgettable freckles! She's also a gorgeous person on the inside as well, which is the best quality to have.

Teresa is a classic beauty with incredible cheek bones....can't wait to see what shows she will book.

Ramona looks so edgy and this eye-catching picture makes me want to see more of her in the fashion world.

Last but not least, Naomi is an unconventional beauty destined for greatness. She's booked many desirable editorials and is already making her mark this season and seems well loved by all. She has the potential to have an incredible season for sure.

Oh, and speaking of trends, anyone else notice the black and white trend for the show cards? It's like this was planned or something...

R.I.P Martin and Osa

Recently when I was jean shopping at the mall I came to the terrible realization that one of my favorite brands has been discontinued! That's right... no more Martin and Osa. I loved Martin and Osa because they were simple and classy. All their clothing was clean cut and slightly preppy... and not to mention everything was nautical inspired and anyone who knows me knows that I have a weakness for sailor-esqu things. In my opinion, it was a store that was terribly underrated. Martin and Osa, you will be missed. (Even if only by me hahaha)

I found the following photos in i-D magazine of the actress/model Gemma Arterton, taken by Alasdair McLellan. I only chose to focus on three of the five photos in the editorial because of their pure simplicity. If you look closely you will notice that these three photos are all very similar... Each one is a close up, straight on, beauty shot. However, the little differences between these photos keep the spread from being anything but boring and repetitive!

The shades here add flair...

Take off the shades and add a little color and the photo has a completely different feel!

The model's simple change in pose adds the feeling of hopefulness...

What I love most about this editorial is its relaxed and natural feel. No outlandish poses, fancy makeup or crazy hairstyles... just the beauty of the model and some wind blown hair.

"Meet me at the Corner" in i-D Magazine

Decorating my dorm room is always one of my favorite parts about a new school year... Every year I splurge of a couple of foreign, fashion/photography magazines and cut out my favorite editorials to hang on my blank walls. Take a look at a few of my newest pieces of artwork from i-D magazine called "Meet me at the Corner." This editorial features Behati Prinsloo and Jamie Strachan who are a real-life model couple, and was photographed by Kayt Jones.

According to i-D magazine, " Behati and Jamie star as strangers who meet on a corner in Beverly Hill one perfect evening. They share one night of exquisite romance and the next morning return to the same corner and part company whilst looking positively stylish..."

What are your thoughts on this editorial? Do you agree with this storyline? In my opinion, this pair looks like more than just a one night stand in this editorial!

Where will you be September 10th?

If you've already gotten your September issue of US Vogue, you know that the place to be on September 10th is New York City. If you haven't gotten your issue yet, you've now heard the news from us.

Why should one be in NYC? Because September 10th is Fashion's Night Out, that's why!

Below is a public service announcement about FNO from last year, but I still think it's relevant for 2010! PS- Does anyone else find it hilarious how Raquel Zimmerman is just draping herself on Alex Wang throughout the video?

To sum it up, Fashion's Night Out is basically one giant, city-wide celebration in the name of fashion. On this night, from 6pm to 11pm, there will be designers, models, celebrities, food, drinks and fun activities in several stores across the city. According to the Fashion's Night Out website, "The goal of Fashion's Night Out is to celebrate and support the fashion and retail industries with full-price shopping." By keeping the stores open into the night and enhancing the shopping experience, the fashion world hopes to encourage more people to shop during these difficult economic times.

By the time September 10th rolls around I will already be slaving over my books at Uconn, but I might just try to make a trip to the city anyways. I mean come on.... Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be judging Karaoke at Barney's. How am I supposed to miss that?

The Queen of Cool

Have you ever been asked the question, "If you could be somebody else for one day, who would it be?"

For me, the first names that always pop into my head are fashion related....I've reveled in the idea of being Anna Wintour, Coco Rocha or one of the Olsen twins. Another fashion legend on my list is supermodel and designer, Erin Wasson.

For those of you who don't know much about her, she's done work for Maybelline and Victoria's Secret. Since her start in the early 2000's, Erin has landed on the cover of several Vogues and has strutted down the runways of nearly every designer from Chanel to Ralph Lauren. Her edgy, California-meets-New York style has made her a style icon within the industry and even served as an inspiration to designer Alexander Wang's "model off duty" style phenomenon.

Last year I was lucky enough to meet Erin at a casting for the s/s 2010 show of her clothing line, RVCA. I remember walking into the casting on Chrystie St. and seeing her sitting on a couch, holding my comp card in her hand. She told me that I had "the body of a fourteen year old black boy." I know she meant it as a compliment (and I gladly took it as one), but looking back on it I'm thinking, wtf (what normal girl wants to be called that)? Either way, it's an interesting story nonetheless.

At the casting, Erin's hair was pulled back and she was wearing a tank top paired with black and white, acid washed jeans. I was somewhat starstruck at first, but she was very easy to talk to so I was able to relax. I remember she complimented me on my Steve Madden heels, which my agency had spray painted black (no color allowed on Megadeath). I showed her my walk twice and then left the casting, passing Chanel Iman at the elevator on my way out. I must have made a good impression on her because I was confirmed for the show that same day. Here is a picture of me from her show....no worries, I don't recognize myself either.

Getting the chance to be in the RVCA show was one of my favorite parts of New York Fashion Week. Not only was it my first show in the tents but I was walking alongside models like Lily Donaldson, Irina Lazareanu and Freja Beha Erichsen. Backstage, it was like a party. Everyone was in a celebratory mood and there was great energy. The models got to keep the shoes (score!) and take home some Low Luv jewelry. (double score!!) Low Luv is Erin's jewelry line...it has a hardcore, Aztec inspired feel. I read in an interview that "Low Luv" is the motto that Erin lives by.....it's all about spreading love on the down low. Very cool, no?

One thing I am dying to own from the line is this piece of body jewelry.... I need to save up and get me one of these!

I am very aware that this post is very scattered, but I just have so much to say about Erin Wasson. Bottom line is that she's just the coolest, and that's that.

The Evolution of Beauty...

Hello bloggers!

Sorry for the lack of posts this month... Everything has been so hectic these days as Meggasus and I are both getting ready to go back to school. I leave in 3 days! Meggasus and I still have to pack, which I am dreading. This is the sad time of year when we must divide our wardrobe... and it is never fun. Our room turns into a complete warzone as we battle it out over our favorite items! ahhh!

Anyways I decided for this post it would be fun to switch things up with a little fashion history! Take a look at this photo.... Any guesses as to whom this lady may be?

Sorry for the terrible quality... but this photo was taken in the 1800s so cut me some slack!

This is actually a photo of the first true model, Marie Vernet Worth. Marie was a Parisian shopgirl who married the designer Charles Worth who is now considered the "Father of Couture." Marie modeled his designs.

What I find most intersting about these photos is how they demostrate how drastically the fashion world has changed overtime. If I had seen the first photo of Marie, I would have never guessed that she was a model. Quite frankly, she looks like a plain Jane! Although the quality of the photo is terrible, it is still clear enough to be able to tell that if she time traveled and walked into IMG or Ford, they would probably turn her away the second she entered the lobby! For one thing she looks pretty short... no more than 5'4'' is my guess. By today's standards some modeling agencies won't even let you send them your photo unless you are over 5'8''!! Also, Marie looks very curvy with shapely arms... Definitely nothing like the underweight models of today!

It's funny how the ideal image of beauty can change so drastically overtime. The dresses designed by Worth are clearly made for women to show off their curvy features... Just take a look at the hips of those dresses! Talk about bootylicious! Definitely something the runway models of today are trying to avoid...

Sorry if this post was a snore...but I love history! It's one of my many nerdy traits.

"Art on the Green" in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho

While in Idaho, Meggasus and I had one of those days that unexpectedly turned into one of the best days of our lives. It was simple yet wonderful... First, we were woken up to music being played throughout the gorgeous lake house we were staying in and to the smell of french toast and bacon... just to set the scene, take a look at the kitchen table and those beatiful windows with a view!

Quite picturesque... no?

After we enjoyed a relaxing breakfast with our friends, we headed off the an event called "Art on the Green," which takes place annually in Coeur d' Alene on Sherman Ave. Meggasus and I had no idea what to expect... It turns out it was basically our ideal shopping day. Vendors selling all types of eccentric jewelry, clothing, furniture and basically anything else you could think of, lined the entire street (It was a very long street) and filled a nearby park. Meggasus and I ended up being separated from our group of friends because we spent too much time looking at almost every stand searching for unique pieces.... We took some pictures to share with you some of our favorite finds!

We noticed that indian inspired/ chunky tribal jewelry was a huge trend among the vendors...

I absolutely fell in love with this teal necklace!

(Oh yeah and I randomly bleached my hair blond the day before... just in case you were shocked by the hair!)

See what we mean by tribal? We both adored the previous necklace with the blue stone, bamboo, and gold chain...it was a very unique combination! and a good deal too... 2 for twenty!

You think that deal was good...check out these rings! 2 for 5 dollars! If you have an "edgy" style, these are perfect!

Most Fashionable Read?

Long time no see, blogosphere! Katie and I are finally back home from the Land of Potatoes (Idaho) and are finally ready to start blogging again. Being away from technology for almost two weeks was tough for us,but somehow we survived! Anyways, we both missed our little blogging social life and are happy to be back home in Connecticut.

Idaho is a six hour plane ride from Hartford, so to keep myself occupied (I never can nap on planes) I decided to read Crystal Renn's new book, Hungry.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mention Crystal Renn a lot on this blog but I have good reasons. I love her story and I love what she stands for. She proves that accepting your true self is the only thing that can lead a person to ultimate happiness and success. Crystal is one of the few models (among her are legends like Coco and Natalia Vondianova) brave enough to change the unrealistic ideals of the fashion world by revealing her own life's trials and tribulations. I really respect her for that.

Here is a short clip about her new book..... sorry I'm getting a little "Tyra Banks" on you, but I mean it when I say her inner strength and self confidence just radiate through this video!

Needless to say, I couldn't put the book down and had long finished it by the time I got home yesterday. In fact, I spent part of my plane ride writing Crystal a letter to tell her my thoughts on the book and to let her know how inspiring she is. (Sort of a dorky thing to do...but aren't most bloggers a little dorky?).

I really hope there can be more high fashion plus size models in the business. If there were more girls like Crystal booking high-end jobs, I think designers would finally realize these women can sell clothes just as well because their healthy looks project a more positive, beautiful energy. Just check out this image of Crystal walking down the Jean Paul Gautlier runway. She can really work that dress!

Anyways, Crystal's story resonates with all types of people, not just fashion insiders....with that said, I suggest you pick up a copy of this book and let its strong message sink into your mind.

Idaho Vacation!

Hello Bloggers!!

Meggasus and I are off to Idaho until the beginning of August with a group of our high school friends! There will be limited cell service and no internet... (GASP!) I've been to Idaho for the past two summers to visit my best friend and her family who own a beautiful cabin on a river and now a gorgeous Lakehouse as well! It is a very "outdoorsy" vacation...lots of water sports, hiking, biking, boating, fishing etc! We can't wait to relax and spend quality time with our friends.

Here are a few pics from my trip last summer...Meggasus was modeling in NYC for the past two summers so she was unable to make it and therefore is not in any of the photos. This is going to be her first time on the west coast!

Some Unique Purchases...

Meggasus found this adorable straw hat, perfect for summer! It's vintage too, which makes it even more appealing!

Meggasus instantly pointed out the similarity of this hat to the ones found in the Jason Wu Resort show... It's funny how styles repeat themselves! A photo from Wu's collection is shown below.

I think I may actually prefer the pink for once!

As for myself, I absolutely fell in love with this big, floppy hat. I've been looking for one for ages, and this one was perfect! However, an older lady in the store was green with envy when she saw it and instead of letting her get all worked up over it I just let her have it. I'm sort of regretting that move...hahaa
The black shades were only 5 dollars, so I couldn't resist!! Also, I absolutely fell it love with this black, beaded throw on. Very flapper-esque, no? I've been obsessed with items with fringe these days... For only 20 bucks, I bought this item as well! I can't wait to wear it out...It's the perfect item to throw over a party dress!...or even perhaps mix it with some casual grunge?? I will have to do some experimenting with it!

The Newest Trend?

For most people, getting gray hair is not something to look forward too. However, I've noticed recently that going gray is actually a trend that is being embraced by the fashion community. Just this month, US Vogue released a new editorial by David Sims featuring 43 year old model, Kristen Mcmenamy, donning a full head of lustrous silver locks.

In my opinion, Vogue is sending a great message to its readers- that age is something to be proud of. This editorial reminds us that with age comes wisdom, grace, and for a few lucky ones, a well deserved sense of self actualization.

However, Italian Vogue is taking this trend one step further by casting 25 year old model Sasha Pivovarova and having her sport gray hair as well. It's like the people at Italian Vogue are saying, "Who says you need to be old to have gray hair?". In my opinion, having your hair colored gray at a young age is like when a person with perfect vision wears non-prescription glasses to look smarter. Gray hair makes a young person look wise and experienced. Take a look at this picture of Sasha from Vogue Italy (May 2010).

Call me crazy, but I really like the idea of a person coloring their hair gray. Just think of how cool Stacy London from What Not to Wear looks! If you're not sold on this idea, just look at this picture of one of my favorite models right now, Hannah Holman. I found this picture of her on The Fashion Spot and I think it looks totally awesome! I wonder if this is permanent for Hannah or if it's just some sort of transitional coloring from a job.....either way, I think she should keep it.

So, are you guys feelin' the gray hair on youngsters like I am? Don't worry, I'm not planning on coloring my own hair anytime soon but I have wondered what I would look like if I did.

Givenchy Fall 2010 Couture Collection, "The Bone Collection"

When I stumbled across the following photos on style.com of the Givenchy fall 2010 collection I was left speechless. Known as "The Bone Collection," these dresses are inspired by skeletons and glamorize the idea of death... The collection was created by Riccardo Tisci.

What I found interesting about this collection is the use of different materials...such as lace, fringe, zippers and crystal. All the pieces in this collection are fabulously ornate and intricate... What I also noticed about this collection was its unique color palette. When I think of death, I automatically associate the subject with dark colors, like black. Now that it's July, summer is in full swing. To get everyone excited for the month ahead, I've decided to post one of my favorite beach editorials from Vogue Paris, 2009.

I love this editorial because it proves that Sasha Pivovarova, who is (in my opinion) the queen of being fierce, also has the best smile in the business.

A Weakness for Antiques...

I have a few weaknesses.... which include tall guys, dark chocolate and antiques. Yes, you heard me, Antiques! I'm quite the old lady in that sense....I love anything vintage and anything that contains history. That is why I loved the day Meggasus and I recently spent together, when we ventured over to Colinsville, which is home to the best antique store we've ever been in called "Antiques on the Farmington"... We took a few pictures along the way that we thought you would enjoy!

We took a photo of the inside just so you could get a sense of just how massive this antique store is... and this was only one of two floors!

Meggasus and I couldn't get over the amazing selection of antique jewelry! Each piece was unique . Take a look at one of the displays....

We just adored these rings!

I'm a sucker for a black fur coat! This one was stunning...

This was another one of our favorite displays... this outfit is so sweet and summery! I love the details in the cardigan.

Our First Contest Ever- WINNERS!

After about two hours of looking through the blogs of our 50+ contestants that participated in our most recent contest, Meggasus and I have FINALLY agreed on three winners. It was a long process.... we laughed, we cried, we argued! (Emphasis on the last one) For those who participated, we would like to thank you all for your patience! Every blog we saw was unique in its own way... however, the ones we chose speak to us, and very much reflect our taste in fashion, photography, art, etc. Now to announce the winners (They are listed in no specific order)... drum roll please!!....

Artpixie is the blog of a 16 year old girl from Austrailia who has an incredible eye for photography. The beauty of this blog is that she features the work of up and coming photographers and artists, giving these visionaries the attention they deserve. Her blog is not only well organized, it is also visually impressive. The Artpixie blog gives off a sweet and feminine vibe that is very welcoming to its viewers. Her blog is separated into several sections (Photography, Art, Fashion, Editorials, Interviews, Free Downloads, Blogroll and her own work) making it easy for readers to find what they are looking for. According to Meggasus, "When I read this blog it makes me feel really happy, like when I'm eating a delicious funfetti cupcake with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles." For a sixteen year old, this girl is very professional and will definitely do big things in the future.

Une Toute Petite Pomme

French for "The little apple," this blog has been one of our favorites from the start. Each post is simple and consists of one or two photographs and a short, inspiring phrase, thought, or explaination. Pomeline will post photos of anything from a soft, vintage, Fernando Pessoa painting to a photograph of what she had for breakfast to pictures of Gemma Ward, Jessica Stam and other high fashion models. If you are in search of inspiration. this is the place to look. Where Pomeline stumbles upon these unique images is a mystery to us, but she never fails to find something visually pleasing. According to Meggasus, "This blog makes me wish I could speak in sexy french phrases and write exquisite poetry."

Fashion Clocked

We love Katie from Fashion Clocked because just by looking at her blog, we felt asthough she could be one of our good friends if only we lived closer. Out of the three winners, this blog is the most fashion oriented, while the other two are more focused on photography. After reading Fashion Clocked's outfit posts, we both wish we could borrow her wardrobe because we love every single item that she features. This makes sense, because the blogger behind Fashion Clocked is a fashion merchandiser and buyer from the United Kingdom with obvious good taste. Not only does Katie have excellent style, she is also a blonde, model-esque beauty with fabulous bone structure. According to Meggasus, "I don't want to sound weird, but I wish I was the girl from Fashion Clocked.... She probably has a cool British accent to go along with her cool clothes!"

Who's that Girl?

Yesterday, Models.com posted the newest Prada campaign for the Fall/Winter 2010 season, photographed by Steven Meisel. Like I've said before on this blog, being cast in the Prada campaign is probably one of the best jobs a model can book. So naturally, I'm always very curious to see who landed the big gig. Take a look!

This season the campaign stars supermodel Angela Lindvall and Mathias Bergh. Other models in the campaign include Valerija Kelava and Kim Dall Armi, Daria Strokous and Clement Chabernaud, Mark Cox and Sigrid Agren.

When you take a closer look at the ad, you can see that there is also an unidentified model in the background who happens to be african american. This is the first time there has ever been racial diversity in a Prada campaign.

Part of me wants to celebrate this newfound diversity in the Prada ads, but the other part of me can't help but wonder exactly how progressive this ad is, considering the only black girl is alone in the background, covered by shadows and completely unidentifiable. Isn't it actually a little racist?

Any ideas on who is model is? My guess is Shena Moulton or Joan Smalls.

Some Eccentric Body Jewelry ....

This is one of my first ever jewelry posts... and I'm not talking about your classic diamond earrings and pearl necklaces...The trend is now quite the opposite, and that is eccentric body jewelry. The more exotic the better! It is safe to say that if you wore these pieces out, you would definitely steal the show!

I found this first piece on Fashion Infusion blog!

In my opinion, this item is positively stunning and unique... It would be the perfect way to dress up those summertime, strapless dresses!

This next Egyptian inspired accessory is Bliss Lau's "Head Peace In Old Nickle."

Let's just say it's far from your typical princess tiara or those hippie headbands... Very exotic!

I am curious how this piece stays on... Is there are clip somewhere to keep it from sliding around??

Some may think this third item is over the top... but I think it is just brilliant! What an easy conversation starter this would be. It's Aminaka Wilmont's necklace in gun metal!

I have never seen anything like this last accessory before... It's Erickson Beamon's "Duchess of Fabulous Earring in Crystal." At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this piece... maybe a little too elfish? But then I thought about the graceful Arwen and my doubts about this piece quickly vanished! (Who wouldn't want to be like the LOTR elven goddess?!) It definitely takes earrings to a whole new level!

Gaga's "Alejandro" Video is Typical Klein.

When I heard that Lady Gaga had collaborated with fashion photographer STEVEN KLEIN to create a music video for her newest song, Alejandro, I knew it would be something very uh... sexually charged.

Yesterday, when the video was finally released, I heard the shock in my friend's voices as they described to me what they had seen: "All I can say is there are men in fishnets" was the only comment I had to hear to know my prediction would be correct.

Before I show you the video, take a look at some of Klein's typical work......

Now, picture these images in real life and add some Gaga music to it.......you'll have this video.

So, what do you think? Personally, I love it because it just screams Klein. In fact, I see more of Klein's style than Gaga's in this video. Lately, the combination of fashion and film (also known as fashion cinema) has been immensely popular......I'm glad to see that Gaga has embraced this trend by using a fashion photographer to direct this video. In my opinion, Klein brings a high fashion perspective to this video which makes it that much better.

Industrie Mag Editorial

Every once in awhile I come across a new editorial that just blows me away. A few days ago I found this set of photographs featuring Marilyn Agency's Eniko Mihalik for the first issue of Industrie Magazine. This 12-page spread, photographed by Richard Bush and styled by Sarah Richardson is unlike any other shoot I've never seen before.

These days, there are new magazines popping up right and left that hardly stick around for more than a few issues. Based on this editorial alone I have a good feeling about Industrie Mag....

Take a look!

A typical photoshoot on the beach usually results in something pretty commercial (just think about VS swim). The sun-kissed models with tousled "beach babe" hair along with the colorful bikinis and water-front scenery tends to give most shoots a light-hearted, summery feeling.

However, Bush adds an element of edginess and uniqueness to this shoot with his choice to make the photos black and white. I like this shoot because he uses interesting, and almost awkward (but not awkward) camera angles.

Sarah Richardson also does a great job by styling this beach shoot in a very unconventional way....absolutely no swim suits in sight! Instead, she uses (gosh, it's hard to describe) shimmery crystal and metallic body suits.....sort of like extreme body jewelry! I see chains, metal plates, sequins....and is that Frodo's mithril? Whatever it is, these clothes catch the sunlight, making the photographs that more interesting to look at.....because who doesn't like shiny objects?

Also, Eniko brings an intensified energy to this shoot which is very memorable. I love her strong poses and piercing eyes...they just lock with yours when you look at these photos!

Recently, Meggasus and I were asked to participate in a project called "See Like Me." The brains behind the operation is Trey Taylor, a creative fashion mind who seeks out various people within the fashion industry (stylists, photographers,models etc.) to hear their perspective on what they do. Meggasus and I were more than thrilled to put together a video for his website, which we have posted below.

LuShea Jewelry Photoshoot/ Product Review!

Recently, a reader of the Meggasus Peggasus and Katie Lu blog sent us a wonderful gift in the mail all the way from California...a pair of Amethyst Dew Drop earrings from her jewelry line, LuShea Jewelry. We were given an opportunity to pick out a complimentary item off of her website and were thrilled that the dangle earrings we had chosen arrived within only 3 short days of our order....

We find the classic design of these earrings to be very versatile, which is why we decided to photograph them in two separate settings. Meggasus paired the earrings with a vintage floral dress to complete her relaxed daytime look while Katie-Lu wore them with a classic black cocktail dress perfect for a night out.

The Amethyst Dew Drop earrings are so sparkly and feminine. We really loved how the top and bottom stone were different shades of purple. The topmost gem is is a brighter purple and caught the sunlight beautifully, drawing all attention towards the face.

We found the Lushae Jewlery collection to be very elegant and refined, perfect for when you're looking to add some class and sophistication to an outfit. We found the majority of the earring and bracelet designs to be simple and clean, whereas the ring and pendent collections on the site had more of a mix between classic and spunky pieces with bold color and intricate design.

Earrings are by far our favorite accessory because they never fail to complete an outfit. We found these earrings to do exactly that; the deep purple stones really pulled together both of our looks. In Katie-Lu's black evening dress photographed below, the purple stones add just the right touch of color to the look. On the other hand, the purple color of the earrings really enhanced the blues, purples, and greens found in Meggasus's floral dress.

Typically, we are drawn to wearing more fashion forward jewelry and we like to take risks when it comes to accessorizing. We found the Lushae jewelry to be geared more towards people who have a more traditional style. But hey, who doesn't love investing in a few timeless pieces every now and then? ANTM Winner to be on Italian Vogue!

According to New York Magazine's Fashion blog, The Cut, America's Next Top Model will be making many changes in the near future which will transform the reality show from extremely commercial to the highest of high fashion.

Before I started modeling, I would be glued to the television every Thursday night watching America's Next Top Model. When I finally broke into the business, I was highly disappointed when I realized the winners of every cycle never actually amounted to anything beyond their Cover Girl contract.

Recently, former editor at large for Vogue magazine, André Leon Talley, signed on to be the newest judge on ANTM for at least the next three seasons.

In case you don't understand the significance of this new judge, the Cut couldn't have said it any better:

"What Tyra is to 12-year-old girls, Talley is to the fashion industry. He appears at her side like a shepherd guiding her back to sophistication."

So, what's in store for ANTM as we know it? Well for one thing, the winner will no longer appear on the back cover of Seventeen magazine. Instead, Talley has arranged for the newest winner to be featured on the cover of Italian Vogue and have two editorials inside. Yes, you are not imagining things, I said Italian Vogue. Better yet, the winner may in fact be shot by Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue. And If I do say so myself, claiming yourself as a "top" model after being shot by Meisel for Italian Vogue has some definite legitimacy. With this said, I guess it will be safe to consider the winner of the next cycle an actual top model.

I have not watched ANTM since I was about sixteen but now I'm going to start watching it again! I wonder if our this show can actually produce our newest runway

Crystal Renn Takes over the Fashion World

I was browsing the Ford Models website and stumbled upon some photos of plus size model Crystal Renn in this month's Tush Magazine. You probably recognize her from the infamous "One Size Fits All" editorial found in V Magazine we blogged about earlier this year. As a teen Crystal suffered from anorexia and forced herself to loose 90lbs so she could become a model! However, in 2003 she decided to give up the excessive dieting and switched to plus size modeling, in which her success came almost instantly! (Read her full bio here.)

This next one is so elegant...

I'm lovin the attitude in this last one!

These gorgeous images make me feel sad to think that Crystal was originally told to shed ten inches off her hips. Why would you want to change someone who is so beautiful?

Recently, Crystal Renn took the fashion world by surprise when she walked for the Chanel Resort 2011 show. This news came somewhat of a shock to me since it was Karl Lagerfeld who notably stated "No one wants to see round women." Here are some photos from the show...

At the moment, the fashion world seems to be obsessed with the return of curves. Let's just hope this switch towards a healthier ideal sticks around. In the future I hope that seeing a plus sized model in a high fashion setting will not be as much of a surprise......

The Ford website says that 2010 is Crystal's year... So I look forward to seeing more of her work!

The Lady Dior Universe

The "Lady Dior Universe" is a series of short films featuring model/actress Marion Cotillard... A new film is released as each new installment of Lady Dior's handbag line is revealed. What I love about these mini movies is how they are far from typical online commercials. These films contain drama, action and suspense... and every shot looks as though it could be found straight out of a campaign in a high fashion magazine. The newest video was released on Saturday, entitled "Lady Blue Shanghai." Here are the videos in order of their release! You may want to grab a seat on a comfy couch and pop some popcorn before watching these mini movies...

1) Lady Noire Affair- This film is the most action packed! Marion ends up on the Eiffel Tower...

2) Lady Rouge- They made this one into a music video... I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

3) Lady Blue Shanghai (NEWEST EPISODE!!)- This one comes in two parts...The 2nd part is pretty trippy!

This is such a clever way to advertise... After watching these films, viewers have an emotional attachment to not only to Marion and the story lines, but to the handbags themselves. Personally, I wish the story lines of each movie connected. I think this would build suspense and generate more excitement for when each new film was released...Do you agree ? Or do you think that each bag deserves its own different film? If I weren't a poor college student, I would probably buy the Lady Blue Shanghai bag because it was my favorite film ;)

Inez and Vinoodh are my newest obsession.

Recently I've been very inspired by the fashion photography team Inez and Vinoodh. I've seen their work everywhere, from Vogue Paris to W, and I've always wondered how they work together on set. Usually, a single photographer will run the show and call the shots during a shoot, but this husband and wife team have managed to build a highly successful career by collaborating their artistic views as a team. Please excuse the "newscast" vibe of this video.

In the video, Inez said that things are more relaxed on set because between the two of them, someone will always get the shot. This confidence they have on set reminds me of the feeling we have when Katie-Lu and I are together. If Katie-Lu and I were a photography team I wonder what kind of technique we would bring to the shoot.

Here are some photos I'm guessing were taken by Vinoodh, the photo "stealer" because the models are looking away from the camera, possibly at Inez's lens.

Finally Reunited: Thrift Store Adventure #1

The best people go to the thrift store....check out the dude who walked in right before we did!

So, now that's we're reunited for the summer we've been spending a lot of time doing our favorite things, like driving in our jeep Nelly Furtado, blogging and of course, THRIFTING! Here's a little video Katie-Lu took yesterday at the start of our Thrift Store adventure.

Whenever we go to the Thrift Store, we sort of take over the only two dressing rooms they have....and then have photoshoots in the clothes. We sometimes cause a scene, but it's all for the sake of the blog so it's ok. Check out some outfits we found!

First up is Katie-Lu, in a floral shirt and an Ann Taylor satchel...the earrings are from forever 21.

Staring contest!! I win.... =P

Next, Meggasus found herself in a neon pink jumper....and a polka dot blouse...kind of "out there", we know.

Then, Katie found a high waisted, black and blue skirt....she paired that with a basic strappy tank top. Katie is really workin' those tags!

The next outfit that Meggasus wears is a full length floral dress, very prairie chic. She is also wearing her newest double finger ring from Forever21. :)

Then, Meggasus actually found a classic button down shirt that looks good on her! That never happens. Now, all she has to do is go meet Muffin and Savannah down at the country club.

Oh, and the best part about the entire day was that it was FAMILY DAY! Which means that everything in the store (that didn't have a white tag) was 1/2 off!! Wooot! We made out like bandits...Meggasus bought the button down and the Ann Taylor satchel for $3.57. Katie-Lu was the big spender of the day....she bought the black and blue skirt, the strappy tank top and 2 pairs of earrings, all for $8.30. Happy Family Day!

We will be having many more Thrift Store outings this summer, so stay tuned.

"Hitchcock Blondes" by Richard Warren

Richard Warren is quickly becoming one of my favorite fashion photographers. While looking through his homepage I came across this an editorial called "Hitchcock Blondes." What caught my attention about this editorial was its vintage feel, and its focus on "classic beauty."

Hitchcock was notorious for casting blondes in his films...he explained this once in an interview with Francois Truffaut. Hitchcock stated, "You know why I favor sophisticated blondes in my films? We're after the drawing-room type, the real ladies, who become whores once they're in the bedroom."

Classy. That is all I have to say.

This Girl Can Dance

While browsing some of my favorite threads on The Fashion Spot, I found this amazing editorial of Irina Lazareanu by David Bellemere for Marie Clare Italia May 2010 .

This editorial is seems different from all others I've ever seen. It's just very raw....brimming with emotion and life. It's like you're watching a performance as you turn the pages. (or uhhh, scroll down the tfs thread...)

Notice how the powder swirling in the air just adds visible energy to the photograph above. Beautiful!

Irina has been described as the muse for designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Nicolas Ghesquière. After you see this editorial you realize....who wouldn't find inspiration in this girl?

ighting in these images is fantastic.....it gives the entire shoot an on-stage feeling.

There is so much grace in the photo above, especially in Irina's neck and shoulders. Does anyone know if Irina has ever had professional dance training? I think she has but I'm no ballerina, so I can't tell for sure.

Whenever I go to the mall I look forward to shopping in H&M because they always cast the best models to be in the campaigns! The other day I saw this photo of Sasha Pivovarova for H&M and I was blown away.

Despite how "commercial" H&M campaigns are, the most high fashion supermodels always book the job. Sasha, who is known as the "editorial queen" of the high fashion world has been photographed for H&M several times. In fact, I find her H&M ads to be my favorite.

It's amazing how Sasha can go from super edgy on the cover of Italian Vogue to super smiley on the walls of H&M. It just goes to show how versatile of a model she is.

DNA Models Put on a Happy Face!

In honor of summer vacation and the wonderful mood I'm in right now, I decided to search the DNA modeling website for the best smiles. I was surprised at how rare it was to find a model with even just one photo of them smiling in their portfolio...but that just made these photos more like diamonds in the rough! I love these smiles, they just look so natural and not cheesy!

The Two New Givenchy Fragrances of 2010...

This Perfume campaign for Eaudemoiselle De Givenchy definitely caught my attention for a variety of reasons. As soon as I saw it, I had to do a double take... Why is Magdalena Frackowiak wearing a long black cloak on what appears to be a beautiful, summer day? By the way she is dressed you expect to see her walking through a cemetery...

This campaign has a very old, aristocratic feel. However, this is contrasted by the youthfulness of the model and the modern style of the perfume bottle... What are your thoughts on this campaign?

The second designer fragrance by Givenchy is called "Dance With Givenchy," and is shown below.

The model in this campaign is Kelsey Van Mook. Her pose reminds me of those old fashioned jewelery boxes with the ballerinas inside that spin and play music... However the model's outfit is very contemporary with sleek cut lines and all black. Maybe Givenchy is trying to demonstrate the past and the present coming together in these ads? Old fashioned with a contemporary twist perhaps?

Fashion News: Calvin is Done with Size Zero

In the past few years, the high fashion scene in NY, London, Milan and Paris has had many underweight and underage models walk down the runways during Fashion Week(s). It is quite normal for most runway models to be about 5'11'' and a size zero. Some girls are this thin naturally, but lets face it, most aren't.

Thankfully, American designer Calvin Klein has taken a step in the right direction to change the health issues regarding size within the fashion industry.

According to Fashionologie, the creative director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, has done away with casting size 0 models and is reportedly committed to only casting models who are size 2-4.

Of course, increasing the standards to sizes 2-4 aren't in any way a big change, but this does allow flexibility for models and takes off some of the pressure that is put on these young girls to be super thin.

Booking the Calvin Klein show is one of the most prestigious jobs a model can have during NY fashion week, so maybe this change will be a good motivator for some models to maintain a healthier lifestyle?

Maybe other designers will follow Costa's lead and help solidify this change for the industry?

Who knows. I hope so.

Walker in Wonderland

Today I found this stunning image photographed by Tim Walker for British Vogue. In my opinion, this is fashion photography at its best. The baby blue dress, the spiral staircase,the lighting, the drama, the slight element of fantasy.....EVERYTHING just works.

Of course, I automatically did an image search and to find more of Walker's work.

I find his work to be very distinct....very vibrant and cinematic. All of images seem to tell a story.

His photography is addicting- I've already read his entire thread on The Fashion Spot and have checked out his website.

According to his site, once Tim graduated college he assisted legendary fashion photographer Richard Avedon, and his first photograph appeared in Vogue by the time he was 25. Walker's photographs have been in several magazines, including British Vogue, US Vogue, Italian Vogue, Teen Vogue, W, i-D and Harper's Bazaar.

What I love about his work is that it takes you to a fantasy world, full of color and imagination. I think this might be why it's so addicting to look at...who wouldn't want to be a part of this playful, fun world?

With these whimsical set designs, I wonder what it would have been like to play "pretend" with Tim as a child-I think it would have been a blast!

His images just speak to the inner kid in all of us and give us a feeling that our wildest dreams can become reality.

Best Day Ever, Part II: The Detail in Digital!

Have you ever had one of those days that was just so amazing that you can't stop talking about it for a good week after it's over? Well the day of this photoshoot with Miss Emily Tebbetts was one of those days. It was somewhat of a spur of the moment shoot, and a very spontaneous day in general! We started our mini adventure in Franklin Park, a beautiful place just outside of Boston, where both of us had never been before!

Here are a few of my favorites from the day...

If you look closely, you will notice that I'm carrying a Polaroid photo of myself we had taken moments before... If you want to see the Polaroids we took close up, read my previous post where I displayed each one!

Notice how Emily managed to capture the shadows beautifully. Shadows can hold so much meaning in a photo.. We worked a lot to use the wind to our advantage that day as well! These aspects had a beautiful effect on the outcome of the photos!

Everything seemed to be falling into place perfectly... We decided to head over to Harvard Square to buy more Polaroid film, which actually turned out to be a perfect location for the 2nd half of our Photoshoot!

I love how each building in Harvard Square is so unique... I especially love the teal around the windows of this one in the background! The flowers too, were gorgeous... The digital camera shows colors so vividly!

Harvard Square is possibly my favorite place in Boston. If you have never been there before, you are truly missing out! There are so many unique shops and wonderful places to eat. Around dinner time, Emily and I headed over to Mr. Bartely's Burgers where I had the best burger and sweet potato fries of my life. The line to get into the restaurant was out the door, but Emily and I got seated right away at the bar!

By the time we got back to campus it was nearly 10:00pm! We had gotten so caught up in our wonderful day that we had no idea where the time had gone...

The Best Day Ever, Part 1: The Magic of the Polaroid

Have you ever wondered what makes a Polaroid photo so wonderful? There is something magical about them that you can't describe.

The other day, the the blog's talented photographer, Miss Emily Tebbetts and I split a roll of Polaroid film from Urban Outfitters. $24.50 for a pack of ten. Worth every penny.

Taking each Polaroid was exciting. With a Polaroid, you only have one chance to get it right. We literally held our breath while we watched each one develop. With only ten shots to take, we wanted to get them right. Our day started in Franklin Park, Boston.

Here was the first Polaroid of the day.

What a relief... In my opinion this turned out lovely. Notice how mysterious the shadows look in a Polaroid.

This next one is my personal favorite from the day.

So peaceful... I love how one of my bright blue flats I had kicked off managed to sneak its way into the corner of the photograph.

Some far away shots...The more I look at these next two, the more I like them. This next one has an old fashioned feel.

Although you can't tell unless you look closely, I'm standing next to a cute little chair carved out of a tree stump in this one... Random, but we thought Polaroid worthy.

We then transitioned into a more urban setting.. Harvard Square! I will blog more about our picture perfect, spontaneous day in my next blog entry when I post the digital photos taken from that day.

The flowers in Harvard Square are beautiful this time of year! The colors look amazing in the Polaroids...

It was starting to get dark...

I love how my hair is falling in front of my face in this one...It adds to the natural feel of the Polaroid.

It was getting chilly...I put on my favorite bright red jacket.

The last photo we took on the red line heading back home... With the city of Boston in the background, crossing over the Charles River.

I hope you appreciate Polaroids as much as Emily and I do... Words can't describe their magic!

Stay tuned for the digital photos Emily and I took this day! It will be fun to compare the difference.

So we all know Terry Richardson is a controversial photographer. I don't think that is news to any of us...However, the fairly recent scandal involving him taking advantage of underaged models had me curious to see more of his work, so I clicked over to his home page...

I should have been more shocked to see this under the tab, "Model for Terry".

"Hello , if you are male or female and interested in posing nude for Terry Richardson please contact us by Email.

Please include your contact information , Phone number name and a photo ( a small jpeg) if possible.
You must be at least 18 years old and be able to provide a state issued ID at the time of the photo shoot."

Kloss on the Gloss

I was in disbelief when I saw the cover of the most recent issue of Teen Vogue. You are probably wondering, why would Meggasus be so stunned about this? Well, it's because I was expecting to see some sort of teen-bopper celebrity on the cover but instead, what I saw was the graceful, fresh face of the young and talented Karlie Kloss!

Finally, a high fashion model lands the cover of a popular American magazine! In my opinion, this is how it should be. One of my biggest pet peeves is how US magaines will use celebrities instead of models to increase sales. But come on!! Who wouldn't buy a cover like this?

Karlie first appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue in 2008 along with models Chanel Iman and Ali Michael. This really helped launch her career as a super model. Ever since, she's been gaining more and more fame within the industry, appearing in almost every issue of US Vogue this past year, as well as Vogue Italia. This girl is unstoppable!

Graffiti Artist Turned Fashion Designer...

"Claw Money" is a semi-underground, up and coming designer who got her start as a graffiti artist in Queens. Recently, she channeled her creativity for vandalism into a fashion design career.. Her signature tag is a fat paw with three claws, and can be seen all over New York City. She has a growing celebrity following which now includes Kanye West, Santogold and M.I.A. Claw Money has also worked on collaborations with Nike and even Calvin Klein.

"Claw Money" is known for her cool graphic tees. If you look closely you will notice that she incorporates her signature claw hand into all of her designs. She has a line of accessories as well which I recommend taking a look at! The best way to describe her style is edgy and fun.

Bottega Veneta S/S 2010 Campaign

Take a look at the Bottega Veneta S/S 2010 ad campaign featuring models Sean O'Pry and Anya Kazakova. When I first saw this campaign in the latest issue of Vogue, I fell in love with it. What I like the most about it is the unique color palette of teal, tans and ivory, contrasting with the bright red of the model's lipstick and dress.

Both models seem to be deep in thought. For some reason I picture the pair scheming about something... What is your take on this?

I like how these photos are somewhat blurry rather that crisp and defined. In my opinion it adds to the mystery of the photos, and makes them more visually interesting. The overall warmth, haziness and expressions on the model's faces work together to create a beautiful campaign with a very relaxed feel.

In honor of the holiday, we decided to post the Miss Dior Cherie campaigns from previous years. They're very springtime-esque...with lots of pastels and sunshine! It's a lovely perfume. We highly recommend it.

A Swimmer's Worst Nightmare...

Steven Klein is a photographer notorious for his racy photoshoots. This one I recently stumbled upon in Italian Vogue... I will blog about Steven Klein more in the near future, but as of now just take a look at this shoot entitled "Rie". I think a better title would be "A Swimmer's Worst Nightmare." Although Steven Klein is one of my favorite fashion photographers, I'm honestly not a huge fan of this photoshoot. Not because it could be seen as its slightly disturbing (many editorials are), but because it seems somewhat random...but I guess it just goes to show you can have a photo shoot basically anywhere if you have the creativity to do so. In this case, Steven Klein took photos in his typical style (dark and slightly pornographic) on a pool deck.

This photo was the most ridiculous to me....I wonder what would happen to the old ladies in water aerobic class if this model decided to join.

What is this, Zena Warrior Princess pool edition?

Here is another one that I didn't quite understand...

That guy is totally checking out her you know what... And is that girl wearing a lampshade on her head?

Oh no it looks like that guy is forcing her to swimming drag tights at swim practice... ahhh!

That last photo is what reminded me of Klein's previous shoot, "Clorox Blue".

One positive aspect about this shoot that definitely caught my attention was how the models used in this editorial are very fit and have the bodies of swimmers. (Obviously appropriate for this particular photoshoot..!) It's a nice change to see models with defined leg muscles!

McCabe Maddness: Our Favorite Fashion Vids

So, besides the occasional Remi Galliard video on youtube, the only other videos we really look up on the internet are various clips of fashion related interviews, shows, photo shoots, etc. So, we've chosen two of our favorite videos to feature on our blog :)

In case you haven't picked up on this up already, we are Coco Rocha obsessed on this blog. So naturally, our first and favorite video right now (and forever) is "Coco Makes Love to the Camera" by New York Magazine. Just look at how expressive she can get within just a few seconds. Anger, lust, happiness, saddness.......We're willing to bet money that this video will make some of you practice your facial expressions in the mirror.

The next video is of a photoshoot with model Natasia V and photographer Terry Richardson for Purple Magazine. If you ever think models just stand in front of the camera and do nothing, think again. In this video, Natasia proves that there is a lot more to modeling than what most people think. A model needs to have high energy, passion, and the ability to just let go of all inhibitions to take the best picture possible.

Fashion Loves Controversy (Viewer Disgression Advised!)

Ok, so if there is one thing the fashion industry loves, it's pushing the limits. How much can you actually get away with before you cross the line between high fashion and just trashin? Well, we wanted to share with you some fashion editorials that will definitely had our jaws dropping.

1) "Dogging" Photographed by Steven Meisel.

Anyways, to help set the scene we will define for you what exactly the term "Dogging" means via the Urban Dictionary...

"Dogging" derives from the term 'walking the dog'. It is a pastime that has evolved from blokes taking their dogs for walks and stumbling across couples going at it in bushes etc. They originally only spied on these couples. The 'sport' has now become much more organized and seedy - with regular meeting places, and more or less a free-for-all spirit

So to put it blatantly..."dogging" basically means having orgies in the woods. Now there is a classy idea for a fashion editorial!!

Here are a few of the more "toned down" images from the story.

Originally, these photographs were meant to be published in Italian Vogue...but they were so shocking that Italian Vogue refused to publish them...and that says a lot considering it's Italian Vogue.

The night vision lighting adds a "home video" touch, don't you think? Steven obviously wanted to stir things up a bit and push the limits. He certainly did. This editorial was eventually picked up and published by American "V Magazine" in their November/December 2008 issue. Any thoughts?

2) "Colorox Blue," Photographed by Steven Klein.
Before we go any further, we would just like to mention that this edditorial was taken by Steven Klein, after all. If you've seen any sexy Dolce and Gabanna ads lately, you've seen an example of typical Klein magic. Starring supermodel Amber Valletta, things get pretty intense in this truck stop-esqu bathroom shoot for Italian Vogue.

Some have called this editorial "fashion porn"...any thoughts?

3) This next fashion editorial is so shocking to us that we had to re read the articleabout it several times to fully let it sink in. (read it here) At first glance you might not even see how it could be controversial...that is until you discover it was photographed at the Holocaust memorial. Yeahhh talk about insensitive.

Clearly low budget. What compelled these people to be so disrespectful is beyond us.

4) This last editorial for Vogue Paris by Mario Testino also sparked controversy when it literally gave Peta the finger....
Not only is flipping someone the bird offensive, but wearing real fur is also a sensitive topic to many people in and out of the fashion world. You know you've created a controversy when you make such a bold political statement in just one photograph.

So there you have it folks, fashion controversy at its best....did any of these editorials offend you at all? Let us know!

Karlie Kloss Scores Two Major Campaigns for S/S 2010

Who is this Natural beauty?? Why it's Karlie Kloss of course! The blog loves her. For the S/S 2010 season she scored two campaigns... Dior and Hermes! Both of which turned out stunning.

Take a look at the Dior Campaign...

I am positively loving the fierceness of this campaign. The head on, super-stare down Karlie does in the second photo is quite impressive. This campaign just works. The vintage wave in her hair and her, the slight raise of her eyebrow and her dark red lips all add to the somewhat seductive/mysterious vibe in this campaign. All I can say is classy, classy, classy!

Now check out Karlie is the Hermes Campaign...

Almost opposite of the Dior campaign, in these we get to see the sweeter side of Karlie.. Very light and airy in tone, these photos are surprisingly refreshing to see in the high fash world!!

Karlie Kloss is stunning and versatile... the blog predicts another great year for her!

Just for kicks, take a look at this cover of Vogue Kloss starred in last year that you may have forgotten about, photographed by Steven Meisel... This is one of my favorite Vogue cover to date!

Thank god there weren't as many spills on the runway this season as there were back in S/S 2009 during the Prada shows!

Thana Kuhnen: Queen of Couture

Thana Kuhnen, signed with Marilyn NY and Natalie Paris is probably one of the most underrated models out there. Just look at her piercing eyes, legs for days and those serious cheekbones that could cut glass! Her face has the most amazing bone structure...it's very classic yet edgy at the same time, making her look very versatile.

She's only 18 years old but when you see her attitude and poise on the runway it's like she's been strutting down the catwalk for years. The proof is on the internet, just watch this Youtube video of her opening the Dior fall 2009 couture show, which was actually more like a performance than a simple walk down the runway.

When you look at photographs in Thana's portfolio, they just scream drama. Take a look at the intensity in these shots.

Anyways, all I'm asking is that this girl book more editorial work so she can become more well known. She's slowly picking up steam in the show seasons, but I want to see this girl's career take off in all areas of her work.

The Space Between...

Flipping through the latest issue of Vogue I couldn't help noticing that two of the models that are dominating many of the campaigns have something very unique in common... They make having a gap between their two front teeth look hot. Check out Lara Stone and Georgia Jagger.

Who knows... but that's what makes the industry so interesting... you never know what unexpected traits will be the next big thing . Not Your Average Runway Show

A typical fashion show consists of a few things. First, there must be some sort of runway...usually just a straight path..down and back. Then, don't forget the models, the clothes, and the background music. Pretty basic stuff.

Well, after viewing this season's Chanel show, I think it is safe to say it was not your average fashion show. In fact, I'm starting to realize that Karl Lagerfeld takes any opportunity he can to make his show the most talked about of the season by making everything very elaborate and entertaining.

Take last season, for instance. Playing with a rustic, farmer's daughter theme, Karl went all out...creating a dirt runway complete with hay, grass, wheat and even a barn! They might as well have had the show in Storrs, CT.... take a look!

About 3/4 of the way through the show, Karl surprised us all when Lily Allen popped out from under the ground to give a live performance.....complete with dancing models! This show turned out to be a giant barn-raising party if you ask me.

After this giant production, we were curious to see what would be going down this season...turned out to be yet another highly entertaining and innovative show.

This season's show took place in Paris--but it appeared to be Antarctica!

Yes, Karl decided to import an iceberg from Scandinavia for the show! Some of the models were even dressed in head to toe fur, as if they polar bears themselves! Like we blogged earlier, FUR is definitely in this season!

Yes, the iceberg started melting!! CLASSIC!

Anyways, that's Chanel fur you. ;) We're looking forward to seeing what's in store fur next season...maybe Karl will rent out an anti-gravity room at NASA and have an astronaut themed show.

INTENSE- Lanvin Paris Spring/Summer 2010 Ad Campaign

The Lanvin Paris Spring/Summer 2010 campaign definitely caught my attention. This campaign features Jamie Brochert and was photographed by none other than photography God, Steven Meisel.

I am typically not a fan of action shots where the movement is clearly staged (ex jumping shots in fashion stories). This one however, is just so visually intriguing. It looks as though Brochert is going to be blown away, but then you notice that the chandelier is swaying in the opposite direction... I also like the contrast of the girlie dresses with ruffles and the extreme reckless movement of the model. Not to mention the hair in the face is definitely a nice effect... Very wild! (To read more about this refer to "You've Got Hair in Your Face, You Big Disgrace" post) Brochert manages to make looking like a ragdoll/Gumby look cool. I absolutely love this campaign!

Peace, Love and Fashion Photography

For the blog's second photoshoot with the lovely and talented fashion photographer Miss Emily Tebbetts, we decided to go for the complete opposite of what we did during our last photoshoot. (see Ripped Jeans, Chains and Breaking Stuff) This most recent shoot was very free spirited and hippie-esqu. We focused a lot more on beauty rather than intensity. Peace, love and fashion go hand in hand in these photos.

I absolutely love the colors in these pictures. Please note how we used the windy weather to our advantage throughout this shoot...

The sunshine in the last one makes me want summer to come faster. Believe it or not it was freezing outside during this shoot. I want to feel warm again!

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about how Miranda Kerr is going from having a strictly commercial career to having a more "high fash" one. Well, after taking a look at the casting of Prada this season, it seems like other VS models are getting this opportunity as well.

So while I was in Art History the other day my professor who thinks he is a rock star went on a tangent about something insignificant to our midterm exam so I decided to check my twitter, of course. Like the fashion nerd I am, I follow MissDK (aka Victoria's Secret angel, Doutzen Kroes). My jaw dropped when she twittered that she was walking in the Prada show!! Later, I found out that other VS angels were cast in the show as well...Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr.

Miranda Kerr for PradaSo what does this commercial model take-over mean? I'm hoping it means that the high fashion world is becoming more open to having varying body types on the runway. In this case, Miuccia Prada seems to be demonstrating a new appreciation for models who are more curvy and healthy.

Not only did the show cast VS girls, but many of the models in this season's show are known to be on the "bigger" side....like Lara Stone and Catherine McNeil.

Is this a sign that sign that the industry is going to start embracing a more healthy, realistic standard for runway models? Let's hope so. The VS girls at Prada prove you can look amazing on the runway and show off the clothes beautifully without being frighteningly emaciated.

Although I think the cast at Prada marks a step in the right direction, I think there is one more thing that could have been done to prove they are ready to make some serious changes.

Doutzen, Miranda, Alessandra, Lara and Catherine are all established models who are respected throughout the industry and have successful careers. Next season, I hope to see a NEW FACE who is unestablished and a healthy SIZE FOUR or even SIX, sweep up the show season and take the industry by storm. Better yet, multiple new faces who meet this criteria would be even better.

Runway Report: Burberry Prorsum (Londontown)

So, fashion week in London has come to a close and we've moved on to Milan but now it's time to take a look at one of the most popular shows of the city. BURBERRY, obviously.

The show opened with a leather aviation jacket......This first look set the tone for the collection....The entire show seemed to have an Amelia Earhart meets Patton theme. Lots of army greens, leather boots, structured jackets...

Oh, and did I mention jackets? This collection was clearly focused on THE JACKETS.

Before I continue, I must say that Facebook and style.com go hand in hand for me. They are both tabs on my homepage, so I look at them interchangeably. In consequence, sometimes I wish the slide shows on style.com had "like" buttons for each look. I feel like there was no middle ground for me in this collection. I either 'liked' the look or uhh- 'unliked' it. Take this next look:
UNLIKE!! The jacket is tooo overpowering and BULKY. The very large collar makes it look like she's wearing an entire sheep around her neck. In fact, there were many over sized collars in the collection, and much focus around the neck.

This next look plays up the neck perfectly:Like! Like! Like! I love the slim fit of the jacket and the detail on the shoulders. Also...THOSE BOOTS are amazing. I really think less is more in this collection. This was very refreshing after the bulkiness of the other jackets...

Unlike! I do not like the texture variation in this look. Leather sleeves, wool fringe, something beige and not leather...very bulky. ehh.
LIKE!!!!! ehem, LOVE!!!! Yes, there is an over sized collar in this look but the jacket is cropped, which in my opinion, balances it out. There is a perfect amount of jacket in this jacket...if you get what I mean! AND, this is one of the only looks in which I noticed an item besides the jacket, in this case the skirt! Sooo gorgeous.

Coco Urges the Industry to Change

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts (See the Best of the Zeros According to Meggasus) Coco Rocha is my favorite model of all time. Her editorials are always so expressive...full of energy and spirit. She's been on top for awhile now, and two years ago she spoke out at the CFDA conference about the pressures that she and other models are put under to stay thin...stating that her agency once told her "the look this year is anorexia...we don't want you to be anorexic but that's just what we want you to look like."

Recently, there has been more discussion about Coco's current figure and that her demand in the industry has decreased. On February 18th, Coco released this statement on her blog speaking up for herself and urging the industry to change once and for all. Here is her full statement below:

There has been quite the commotion over the recent articles about me in the New York Times and The New York Daily News. As only a few select statements of mine were printed I find it necessary to properly express my point of view, without outside editing.

I’m a 21 year old model, 6 inches taller and 10 sizes smaller than the average American woman. Yet in another parallel universe I’m considered “fat”… This was the subject of major discussion this week and the story that was spun was: “Coco Rocha is too fat for the runway”.

Is that the case? No. I am still used and in demand as a model. In fact I find myself busier than ever. In the past few years I have not gained an extreme amount of weight, only an inch here and there as any young woman coming out of her teenage years would.

But this issue of model’s weight is, and always has been, of concern to me. There are certain moral decisions which seem like no brainers to us. For example, not employing children in sweatshops, and not increasing the addictiveness of cigarettes. When designers, stylists or agents push children to take measures that lead to anorexia or other health problems in order to remain in the business, they are asking the public to ignore their moral conscience in favor of the art.

Surely, we all see how morally wrong it is for an adult to convince an already thin 15 year old that she is actually too fat. It is unforgivable that an adult should demand that the girl unnaturally lose the weight vital to keep her body functioning properly. How can any person justify an aesthetic that reduces a woman or child to an emaciated skeleton? Is it art? Surely fashion’s aesthetic should enhance and beautify the human form, not destroy it.

There is division in the industry in this regard. Although there are those who don’t consider a model’s wellbeing, I have had the honor and privilege to work with some of the greatest designers, editors, stylists and agents who respect both new and well established models alike. I know there are many others out there who I haven’t worked with who also agree with me on the stance on this issue.

The CFDA has tried so very hard to correct these matters. As of a few days ago at their annual meeting they found everyone in the room in agreement on changing the sample size as well as booking models over the age of 16. It’s great to see how many people’s hearts are in the right place because we must make these changes for the next generation of girls.

As a grown woman I can make decisions for myself. I can decide that I won’t allow myself to be degraded at a casting - marching in my underwear with a group of young girls, poked, prodded and examined like cattle. I’m able to walk away from that treatment because I am established as a model and I’m an adult… but what about the young, struggling and aspiring models?

We need changes. I’d prefer that there would be no girl working under the age of 16, but if that has to be the case then I’d love to see teens escorted by a guardian to castings, shows, and shoots. The CFDA has set codes in place for their members and I’d love to see the entire industry follow. Society legislates a lot of things - no steroid use in sports is one example - its only reasonable that there be rules of conduct to keep the fashion industry healthy.

In the past, models have spoken out on this issue, only to be accused of saying something because their careers were on the brink of extinction. This is not so in my case. I actually first spoke out about this two years ago at the peak of what a model would consider the ideal career and there was a reaction - those who were the worst offenders suddenly asked me to work for them! This was a public relations ploy and I wasn’t prepared to fall for that. I said “No, lets go a few seasons, lets see if you change, then I will work with you”. They didn’t change. I haven’t worked for them.

Of my generation of models I’m exactly where I need to be in my career and I’m grateful to use my position to actively speak out against this with the support of the CFDA and Vogue. My sincere hope is that through our efforts young models will one day be spared the humiliation, the risky weight loss, the depression that comes along with anorexia and the misery of abandonment by an industry ashamed to see them turn into actual women.

There are natural human standards in how we treat one another and how we treat children. There are those who continue to trample on these standards but there are also champions of a better way. I hope that the continued efforts of the CFDA and all those who hold these values in regard will bolster the opinion of those on the opposing side of the industry to ensure a true change for the better.

Now that the weight issue has been brought up again, will the industry actually change? In my opinion, there are too many models, designers, casting directors and agents who have not shown efforts to make this change. Designers should not hire girls who are too young, or emaciated and sick. Especially for new models, there seems to be a direct correlation between one's success and body weight. The problem is that there will always be models willing to starve themselves to find success within the industry...many of the girls from foreign countries have no other choice but to do so because they see modeling as their only option to improve their life and escape poverty.

I applaud Coco for making this statement. It is probably very difficult to speak out against the business you work in. I hope to see her efforts turn into actual change.

This Season's Biggest Trend... FUR!

So hopefully Peta wont be too upset with me saying this, but this season's biggest trend is definitely fur. Recently, wearing real fur has been a touchy subject... but faux fur is also an option, and sometimes you cant even tell the difference! I wish I could say something logical to defend wearing real fur like "wearing fur is a good source of protein," but that is clearly not the case here... Anyways, fur is just a trend that people can either choose to love or hate. Below, I have picked my top 5 favorite ways to wear fur this season... enjoy!

1)Edgy and Glamorous

To me, this is style is glamorous and edgy at the same time. I love how it hangs like a casual jacket that you could throw on with pair of ripped jeans. Until recently I had always associated wearing fur with being high class/ prim and proper.... This is definitely not your grandmas mink coat.

2) Queen of the Eskimos

This way of wearing fur takes the classic Eskimo hood to an entire new level! Not only is the trim of the hood covered in fur, but the entire top half of the jacket around the bustline is covered in fur as well. I like how the color of the model's hair blends slightly into the hood.

3) Colors not Found on Real Animals...

Zac Posen
Using bright red in the coat rather than the usual black or brown gives this jacket life. The unique stripe pattern is also very visually interesting and adds some flair to it. However, I'm not a fan of the furry heals :/

4) Less is More

Tracy Reese
After looking through Tracy's runway show this season, she has become one of my new favorite designers... And her choice of model could not be better!! (Kate Somers is a personal favorite model of the blog) I love how Tracy used fur in this outfit as a way to complement the rest of the design. A little fur on the sleeves is just enough to add a touch of luxury. This particular color of fur is one of my favorites too...it has a warm glow to it brings out Kate's beautiful features--like her gorgeous hair color!

5) Fun Fur Trim

Betsy Johnson
This way of wearing fur as a trim on a mini dress is so flirty and fun. Leave it to Betsey Johnson to create something this quirky. Her runway shows are always so entertaining...love the mini plastic guns in this season's show!

Runway Report: f/w 10.11

So, I was looking through the images on style.com of the shows this fashion week and realized BLACK, LEATHER, FUR, and BUCKLES seem to taken over the scene at several shows.

Take the Alturzarra show, for instance.... The entire collection seemed to have a dominatrix/vampiress feel. Style.com made a reference to Edward Scissorhands, and I defnitely see the resemblance.

In my opinion, the Altuzarra show was FIERCE this season. There was SO much intensity and drama! The collection was very gothic and even a little haunted... while clicking through my style.com slide show I didn't think it could get any more vampire-like and then I saw this:HOLY....moly. Velvet? I don't know how I feel about it. (Actually, I do know....*cough*partycity*cough*) Otherwise, I love the concept of the full length cape. Verrry amazing. I give major props to anyone who wears one when it's not Halloween, even if it's velvet.

On the other hand, the images from the Lacoste show give a completely different vibe..... sort of retro 80's meets cuddly snow bunny. There were lots of creams and vibrant primary colors in the collection. And, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw models on the runway SMILING! YESSS!!! The death stare is always going to be chic, but after seeing a lot of the BLANK stares it's nice to see more of a variety of facial expressions.

I'm glad to see happiness is in style season.

A Romantic Campaign for a Romantic Holiday...

So in honor of Valentines Day, take a look and enjoy this incredibly beautiful campaign for Ralph Lauren's new fragrance, "Romance." I decided to live vicariously through this ad today...

I love this campaign because it is just so sexy and classy at the same time... But then again that basically describes everything made by Ralph Lauren.

Women-
The woman's version is sweet, soft, and romantic. Awwww!

Men-On the other had the Men's version is animalistic and hot. I would say this basically could be used to describe the Freudian theory about the human "id." hahaa

Its funny how the ad changes based on who the audience is.

A Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Yesterday on February 11th 2010, the fashion industry was devastated to hear the terrible news that British fashion icon Alexander McQueen was found dead in him apartment in London earlier that morning. The industry could not possibly think of a more saddening way to start off fashion week. McQueen may be gone, but his innovations in design and style will live on forever.

It is safe to describe McQueen's style as being over the top, with a somewhat edgy/whimsical appeal. His designs carried the common threads of beauty, strong silhouettes, and dramatic features.

Here are some examples of Alexander McQueen's work McQueen's designs were favorites among superstars such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Madonna. Lady Gaga even wore one of McQueen's designs in her "Bad Romance" music video.
Please note Gaga's 12 inch armadillo shoes. This style was one of McQueen's signature pieces which has taken the industry by a storm.

McQueen will be missed by all. His influence over fashion was a great one. It is a sad day when the life of someone as talented as he is is cut short.

Meggasus is Calling it Now...Breakout Faces of F/W 10.11

It's that time again!! Today is the first official day of NY fashion week and one of the most exciting parts of it is seeing which new faces will be the breakout stars of the season. Who will get the Calvin Klein exclusive? Who will open Prada? Who will walk the most shows? Who will be Russell Marsh's favorite new girl? (Oh, and in case your didn't know, Russell Marsh is GOD in the modeling world....he casts BCBG, Prada, Miu Miu etc).

So, I'm going to make a few predictions on which new faces will rock the fashion world this season. I'm basing this on gut feeling so..........here it goes. The first girl has practically zero hype right now, from what I can tell......but I still really like her and I'm rooting for her!

1) Mariel Soehner @ Ford
Why Mariel? Her show card really stuck out to me when browsing Ford's show package on models.com. I LOVE the harsh, platinum blond hair combined with her soft facial features. She photographs beautifully and her body looks amazing for the runway.

2)Kristina Krivomazova @ Marilyn

Why Kristina? Well, first of all she's with Marilyn ....not that I'm bias or anything...and the board there never fails to bring us a few new stars each season. Given that she did the Calvin Klein pre-fall shows, she has a good chance of being in Calvin this season!! Such an effortless beauty.

3) Amy Greenhough @ One I would post Amy's show card if you could actually tell what she looked like from it, but you can't. (Why did One Management do that?) So here are some poloroids instead! I love this girl...she's just so cool. Her bone structure is amazing and her hair makes her really memorable!

Well, there you have it...my picks for this upcoming season. What do you think?

Vogue Boston; "Ripped Jeans, Chains and Breaking Stuff"

For the blog's most recent photo shoot, we collaborated with the amazingly talented, fashion photographer Miss. Emily Tebbetts. For this shoot only three things were definite from the start...messy hair, red lips and ripped jeans.

Check, check and check.

The rest sort of fell in place perfectly as Miss Emily and I stumbled upon scenery that seemed to be sent down from the photo shoot gods. Chains, graffiti and broken glass equals totally hardcore and perfect for what we were about to do.

That last picture is my favorite by far. The intensity is through the roof.
That's right, I could take on the karate kid for sure... In HEELS.

Ok so I calmed down for the next few photos...
Katie-Lu wears a "leather" jacket from Forever 21, and a black, lace top from the Thrift Store. Jeans are Earnest Sewn and ripped from tripping on the side walk a few years back... Yeah I recently re discovered them and realized that the rip actually made them a lot cooler now. I'm glad I never threw them out...

Hippies, Road Hogs and Circus Freaks Made High Fashion

So I had some free time on my hands today and as usual I found myself browsing through the hundreds of fashion photography prints on condenaststore.com. Amazing website by the way. You should really check it out... it's VERY expensive for poor college students like myself, but hey, I can dream right?

Anyways I stumbled upon this picture and it intrigued me.

There is just so much to look at in this photo. Twelve beautiful women, all very elegant. The longer you stare at this photo, the more you notice. This was definitely not your typical fashion editorial. Allow me to point out what I initially noticed...

-The women in this photo range in age, definitely different from the case in most modern day editorials.

-None of these women are interacting with each other.

-Only two of the models appear to be looking at the camera.

-They all look as though they are dressed for separate occasions.

and my favorite part of this photo...

-They all have cheek bones that could cut glass!

Who took this amazing portrait, you ask?...
None other than the infamous photographer Irving Penn. I should have known.

Yup, that's him. Dark and mysterious.

Irving Penn was a photography genius. As I researched more, I found many patterns in his work. He tended to use simple backdrops which forced the viewer to really focus on his subjects, everything from their clothes to their facial expressions. Also, he used natural lighting (sunlight) and seemed to always carefully arrange his subjects.

With a little help from google images, these were some other photos taken by Irving.

Although these are clearly portraits not fashion editorials, they still look like they could be straight out of the pages of Vogue. I love how this man could somehow manage to make a band of hippies, a group of road hogs and a bunch circus freaks look chic and totally high fashion. It just goes back to the common theme of our blog, which is that anything can be chic if you consider your life a Vogue editorial.

Trenchcoat Twins Turn Style Icons

Katie-Lu and I have looked up to Mary-Kate and Ashley since we were old enough to turn on the television. Growing up we were official members of their fan club and watched every Trenchcoat Twin video we could get our little hands on. I still remember the beginning of their mystery movies; they would be in their attic examining things like giant tarantulas with over sized magnifying glasses until suddenly, their brightly colored phones would ring at the same time and they'd answer by saying, "Olsen and Olsen mystery agency....we'll solve any crime by dinner time." Soooo classic.

Nowadays, it looks like the Olsens have traded in their over-sized magnifying glasses for over-sized sunglasses... and we are even more obsessed with them!

We even dressed up as them for Halloween a few years back...

Well, in honor of the the Olsens, here are FIVE REASONS why you should love the them as much as we do:

1) First of all, the girls are style icons. The press may bash their "Bag-Lady" look, but true fashion insiders appreciate their unique sense of style. In all seriousness, they can do no wrong....ripped tights, fur in the summer, baggy layers, etc. Nobody holds a candle to their self expression and creativity . (And no, don't say Lady Gaga does. She dresses the way she does for different reasons *cough*attention*cough*). Some celebrities hire stylists, but obviously these girls can do without.

2) Number two is that they are twins (obviously)! Not only that, but they actually do love each other and appreciate the fact they are twins. There is nothing more disappointing to Katie-Lu and I than seeing a pair of twins that don't get along and value the special bond that twins can have.

Both girls have stated in interviews that they are best friends.

3) Another reason to love the Olsen twins is that they are not your average celebrity designers. This is because they have actually earned their respect in the fashion industry. (Don't even get me started with Lindsey Lohan). Their clothing label The Row, and its line, Elizabeth and James, have earned the girls enough credibility to join the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America this past June. This accomplishment now places them among other highly esteemed designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger.

4) Fourth reason is they don't even bother acting anymore....it's like they're already over the Hollywood scene and have moved on to bigger and better things. At the moment, they are focusing on their fashion careers only. So chic.

5) Fifth and final reason...lets be honest...who doesn't love Full House?
